Definition of BACNET
Building Automation and Control Networks ( BACnet ) is a standardized communication protocol used for building automation and management . It allows data sharing between different systems CVC (ventilation, air conditioning, access control, security) and their associated services. Used for its flexibility , it offers the possibility of integrating products from different manufacturers within the same system, controllable from a single control station.
BACNET main application
BACnet is mainly applied in two domains : Building Management Systems ( BMS ) and Centralized Technical Management Systems ( CTM ). BMS offers the possibility of remotely control equipment related to the field of electricity, heating and security. The GTC, for its part, is used to manage the different sectors in a centralized manner , regardless of the manufacturer. It is found for example for temperature measurements, or for security services such as fire or intrusion alarms. This flexibility and these numerous functions make BACnet a first-rate choice for the building management and automation .
The differences between BACnet and ModBus protocols
The BACnet protocol is designed to manage a number of systems present in the building sector . It is used for its ability to manage complex and numerous data , as well as for its interoperability between tools from different manufacturers. Thanks to these advantages, the BACnet protocol is optimal for complex infrastructures.
Modbus , on the other hand, is known for its simplicity and is therefore used in infrastructures composed of simple applications . Also preferred for direct communications Between these applications, it is limited in the management of large quantities of data. It also does not shine for its interoperability, which is less extensive than that of BACnet, making communications between systems from different manufacturers less fluid.
Essential product compatible with BACNET
