HOW TO VIEW DATA FROM YOUR SENSORS CONNECTED IN LORAWAN, BACNET, MODBUS?

BACNET

Context :

LoRaWAN sensor integration can be adapted to different needs, from simple deployment to advanced industrial monitoring. This article presents several concrete use cases, depending on the number of sensors , the brands used and the visualization requirements or compatibility with industrial protocols such as BACnet or Modbus .

IMPORTANT

Our technical team is here to support you in the deployment of the LoRaWAN, BACNET & MODBUS solutions mentioned in the article.

If you have any questions about a deployment, please do not hesitate to contact us at 02 51 99 13 03 or at contact@sparwan.com

INT LORAWAN EGRATION only

Use case 1 : Simple installation between 0-10 sensors ( Milesight only )

  • Objective : Basic data visualization.
  • Solution : Milesight IoT Cloud Platform
  • Devices : Milesight LoRaWan sensors and gateway
LoRawan Gateway Network Server Milesight
IoT cloud
IoT Cloud Milesight ( Ready-to-use Dashboard )
---------------------------
  • ( + ) : Ideal for a quick start without development
  • ( - ): Limitation on the number of integrated sensors (> 10 = chargeable)

Application case 2 : Intermediate installation > 10 sensors ( Milesight only )

  • Goal : Advanced visualization without heavy development.
  • Solution : 2-tier architecture (external network server - Example: Chirpstack + Server Beaver)
  • Devices : Milesight LoRaWan sensors and gateway
LoRaWan Visualization

Development Platform (external Network Server)

Beaver server
Beaver Server (advanced view)
---------------------------
  • ( + ) : Largest number number of integrated sensors
  • ( - ) : Installation required

Next update: Removed the "Development Platform" step, the gateway will send directly to Beaver.

Application case 3 : Multi-brand sensors

  • Goal : Wide compatibility, flexible viewing.
  • Solution : External Network Server + Visualization Tool
  • Devices : LoRaWAN sensors ( all brands ) and Milesight gateway
Chirpstack server
Chirpstack (External Network Server)
Grafana

Grafana (or other visualization platform)

---------------------------

  • ( + ) : Compatible with more complex industrial environments.
  • ( - ) : More complex setup

INT LORAWAN + BACNET/MODBUS EGRATION

Complete application case : Industrial supervision with BACnet / Modbus PLC

  • Context : Industrial or tertiary site equipped with LoRaWAN sensors (temperature, humidity, CO2, presence, etc.) and BACnet / Modbus PLC.
  • Devices : LoRaWAN sensors (Milesight or others)
Sever milesight

Milesight Gateway ( with integrated Network Server ) Modbus server

yabe bacnet BACnet / Modbus PLC and supervision system
---------------------------
  • ( + ) : BACNET and MODBUS protocol compatibility
  • ( - ) : More complex setup
  • ( - ) : Encoder and decoder may vary depending on the device*

*Our teams are available to provide assistance at every stage of the deployment.

Process :

The data captured via LoRa is transmitted to the Milesight gateway , which converts it into frames that can be used by the PLC or supervision via BACnet or Modbus .

( + ) Rapid deployment without sensor cabling
( + ) Compatibility with existing systems (BACnet IP / Modbus TCP/RTU)
( + ) Real-time supervision of field data in the PLC or BMS

⚠️ Important limit ⚠️

If the gateway does not use its integrated Network Server , BACnet / Modbus output is no longer possible (e.g. sending to an external Network Server such as Chirpstack or TTN).
