Teltonika rolls out RutOS 7.18 firmware update

Teltonika teams have announced the release of the new RutOS version 7.18. This update introduces new features to make your IoT solutions even more powerful, adaptable, and efficient. Thanks to user feedback and the integration of evolving requirements for modern networks, RutOS version 7.18 optimizes performance at all levels. Operations become smarter, connectivity is enhanced, and interoperability within your network infrastructure is smoother.

Dedicated Starlink page, a major new feature of the update

The latest RutOS firmware update introduces a dedicated Starlink page. This page allows users to monitor and manage Starlink satellite connections directly from the interface.

Accessible via Status → Starlink, this feature displays essential connection information and offers several control options. It is therefore a simple and effective way to monitor connectivity based on the Starlink satellite network.

This new feature enables seamless management of Starlink deployments without the need for external tools. It simplifies operations in remote or mobile environments. The feature is available on all compatible devices, with the exception of small-flash models, access points, and gateways.

Following recent Starlink network outages, Teltonika offers an automatic failover function, allowing for connectivity to be maintained in the event of service interruption. By combining Starlink with a Teltonika router and a 4G/5G cellular connection, users can ensure the continuity of their networks and services, even when satellite access is temporarily unavailable.

RutOS version 7.18 is ideal for critical applications or those deployed in isolated areas dependent on Starlink connectivity.

What other updates are in version 7.18?

New timeout and delay options: New time and delay parameters are now available for the change_state action. They allow input/output (I/O) state changes to be triggered with a delay or temporarily. This improvement offers more precise control over when and for how long I/O states are modified.

Geofencing functionality in Event Juggler: The update introduces a new GPS Enter/Exit operator in the Event Juggler tool. This allows events to be triggered when a device enters or leaves a defined geographical area. This feature enhances automation and location-based control capabilities, particularly useful for IoT applications in transport, logistics, or remote monitoring.

Improved DLMS reading performance: RutOS version 7.18 improves the efficiency of DLMS smart meter reading by reusing existing connections instead of reopening them for each request. This optimization significantly speeds up data retrieval and reduces communication overhead. It offers faster and more reliable performance, a major asset for IoT solutions in the energy and utility sectors.

Protocol converter update: The protocol converter now supports using data from a DNP3 client as a source for a Modbus server, DNP3 station, or SNMP. This enhancement strengthens interoperability between industrial protocols and simplifies integration between automation, energy, and supervision systems. This allows for more flexibility and reliability in complex network architectures.

Support for broadcast messages for MQTT Modbus: This update introduces support for broadcast messages for the MQTT Modbus gateway and Modbus server. It allows simultaneous communication with multiple Modbus devices, improving data transmission efficiency and simplifying configuration in large-scale or multi-equipment deployments.

API transfer format update: To ensure seamless integration with third-party platforms and external development environments, the file transfer format via API is now fully compliant with RFC 2388. This ensures consistent API behavior across all major languages and frameworks, simplifying automation and integration tasks.

IPsec IPv6 support in WebUI and API: RutOS 7.18 adds IPv6 compatibility to IPsec configuration, both in the WebUI and the API. This update facilitates IPsec configuration on dual-stack or IPv6-only infrastructures. It ensures smoother management and scalable performance.

Increased precision through UX–UI updates:

  • The Mobile Status page now displays more information, including main band, connection duration, MTU, and APN, for more accurate network diagnostics.
  • The CSV export on the Mobile Usage and Mobile Signal pages facilitates performance analysis and management in large deployments.
  • The Mobile Signal page now retains one hour of signal history, making it easier to identify temporary drops in connectivity.
  • The SIM Switch page offers a detailed log of SIM failovers, including the causes and duration of each transition, improving the reliability of redundant connections.

These developments enhance precision, traceability, and network management in IoT and industrial environments.

The RutOS 7.18 firmware update marks a new step in Teltonika's commitment to continuous improvement. Each version is designed to make your IoT solutions more resilient, transparent, and easier to manage, while improving performance with each update.
