Isolated RS232 to RS485 Converter for DIN Rail

The Waveshare 27830, referenced as RS232 TO RS485 (B), converts an RS232 serial link into a differential RS485 signal. It provides bidirectional asynchronous conversion and automatically controls the communication direction on the RS485 bus.

Isolation and Electrical Protections

The module integrates power isolation and digital isolation to separate signals and limit interference. TVS devices, a resettable fuse, and protection diodes complete the design. Waveshare states 600 W surge protection and 15 kV electrostatic protection on the RS485 interface.

Serial Communication

The recommended baud rate range is 300 to 115,200 bit/s. The documentation indicates approximately 15 meters on the RS232 side and up to 1,200 meters on the RS485 side, depending on wiring and communication conditions. The RS485 bus can connect up to 32 nodes.

Mounting and Connection

The ABS casing is designed for DIN rail mounting. The power supply accepts a 6 to 36 VDC input with reverse polarity protection. A 120 Ω termination resistor can be activated via a switch.
