Description

High quality Outdoor Lorawan Antenna

This is a high quality outdoor antenna designed to be deployed outdoors, for better range. The antenna connector becomes one with the antenna body, as this design further increases the resistance of the antenna to external conditions. It is IP67 rated, making it weather resistant. It is designed to operate in sub-GHz bands like US915, AU915, AS923, EU868, IN865, RU864.

Coverage without blind spots in an urban area

The coverage provided by this antenna makes it ideal for outdoor deployment in a relatively high altitude location, in an urban area or a suburb of a fairly large urban area, because in such a scenario it is likely that the signal will reach a significant part of a suburb or neighborhood without developing blind spots in the immediate vicinity of the exact physical location of the antenna.

Deployment in urban areas

Lower dBi antenna for better compact coverage

As it is a lower dBi antenna, it is designed to provide better, fuller and more stable coverage for nearby devices, as opposed to a higher dBi antenna, which could do the same for devices located further away from its location. The general logic related to the difference between a higher dBi antenna and a lower dBi antenna is best understood by looking at the following image:

Signal depending on distance

The exact shape of the antenna coverage generally resembles that of a donut, while the exact radiation pattern of the currently discussed 3 dBi antenna can be seen in the following image:

Example application cases and coverage

Overall, the specifications of this particular antenna are very suitable for use with a helium access point, such as the RAK V2 access point or the MNTD access point, mainly because you will be able to reach a large number of witnesses in the urban area where the deployment would be located, especially if you manage to install it at the very top of a building, where it would have a direct line of sight to all nearby buildings.

An example of good deployment of such an antenna in relation to other nearby Helium hotspots can be seen in the image below:

You should also keep in mind that it is always a good idea to use a combination of antennas with different dBi in order to get better overall coverage and fewer blind spots.
