Description
Description
High quality Lorawan outdoor antenna
This is a high quality outdoor antenna designed to be deployed outdoors, for better range. The antenna connector becomes one with the antenna body, as this design further increases the resistance of the antenna to external conditions. It is IP67 rated, making it weather resistant. It is designed to operate in sub-GHz bands like EU868, IN865 and RU864.
The coverage provided by this antenna makes it ideal for outdoor deployment in a high altitude location, on the outskirts of an urban area, where there are a relatively small number of other buildings and people in general. In such a scenario, it is likely that the signal will be able to cover a longer distance until it reaches the intended recipient of the transmission. If you need the transmission signal to reach the center of the urban area or a nearby village or town, it is likely that this antenna will provide you with the coverage you need.
Average gain for full mid-range coverage
As it is a mid gain dBi antenna, it is designed to provide better, fuller and more stable coverage for devices located nearby, but not too close, as opposed to an ever higher dBi antenna, which would be able to do the same for devices located even further from its location. The general logic related to the difference between a higher dBi antenna and a lower dBi antenna is better understood by looking at the image below:
The exact shape of the antenna coverage generally resembles that of a donut, while the exact radiation pattern of the currently discussed 5 dBi antenna can be seen in the image below.
Example application case and coverage
Overall, the specifications of this particular antenna are very suitable for use with a helium access point, such as the RAK V2 access point or the MNTD access point, mainly because you will be able to reach a large number of witnesses in close areas, but not too close to where the deployment would be located, especially if you can get it up high and near the top of a building, where it would have line of sight direct towards distant buildings, but still visible.
An example of good deployment of such an antenna in relation to other nearby hotspots can be seen in the image below.
You should also keep in mind that it is always a good idea to use a combination of antennas with different dBi in order to get better overall coverage and fewer blind spots.
