MBUS-GE80M – M-Bus to Modbus TCP Ethernet Gateway for Smart Meter Reading

The MBUS-GE80M is a high-performance Ethernet M-Bus gateway designed for remote reading of smart meters (electricity, water, gas, heat) and data transmission to industrial systems such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), SCADA systems or any Modbus TCP-compatible system. This model developed by Solvimus is a complete, compact and easy-to-deploy solution for remote reading and energy management projects in connected industrial, tertiary or residential environments.

Connection of up to 80 M-Bus meters

The MBUS-GE80M supports up to 80 Unit Loads on the M-Bus bus, in accordance with EN 13757-2/-3/-7 standards. It is compatible with all standard M-Bus meters and allows automatic device detection via primary and secondary searches (wildcard search included). It supports a baud rate of up to 19200 , enabling fast and reliable communications.

Modbus TCP Ethernet interface

Communication with remote systems is via Modbus TCP over Ethernet , a protocol widely used in the industry and recognized for its reliability. The MBUS-GE80M features a 10/100Base-TX RJ45 port with automatic polarity detection (Auto-MDIX) and integrated status LEDs for rapid on-site diagnostics.

Integration into an existing infrastructure is facilitated by compatibility with the IEEE 802.3 standard . Thanks to its Ethernet connectivity, this gateway allows secure remote access , ideal for multi-site supervision and centralized management of energy data.

Secure web configuration and advanced features

The MBUS-GE80M is configured entirely via a web interface available in HTTP and HTTPS , with no additional software to install. The interface allows the creation of meter lists, import/export of parameters, advanced user management, as well as access to log history to facilitate remote diagnostics .

It also includes an OpenVPN client to establish secure tunnels to remote servers. It includes a firmware update function via Ethernet , with integrity checking and authentication, ensuring an always-up-to-date and secure infrastructure.

High-performance embedded architecture

The MBUS-GE80M is based on a 454 MHz ARM9 processor , accompanied by 128 MB of RAM and 4 GB of eMMC Flash memory . It runs on an embedded Linux operating system, ensuring stability, scalability and robustness. It also has a real-time clock (RTC) that is backed up for up to 7 days in the event of a power failure.

Easy installation and industrial robustness

The compact housing of the MBUS-GE80M (35 x 90 x 59 mm) is designed for installation on 35 mm DIN rail (IEC 60715 standard). It is lightweight (85 g), with low power consumption (2 W idle, 10 W max), making it an ideal solution for electrical cabinets and embedded systems .

It complies with EMC 2014/30/EU , RoHS 2011/65/EU , and REACH directives, and offers protection against transient overvoltages . Its IP20 protection rating makes it suitable for dry and controlled environments.
