Presentation of Lorawan
LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) is a wireless communication protocol that allows connecting connected objects (IoT) to long-range, low-power data networks. It uses LoRa (Long Range) technology, which allows data to be transmitted over long distances (up to 15 km in open field) with a low data rate (up to 50 kbps).
LoRaWAN is designed for use in urban and rural environments, and can be used for a variety of applications, such as surveillance, resource management, connected health, security, and asset management. It supports a large number of connected devices, such as sensors, actuators, and network terminals.
LoRaWAN networks are typically deployed by network operators and technology companies. They can be used to create private or public networks. Public networks are traditionally open to all users and are managed by a third party, while private networks are managed internally by the company or its service provider and can only be used by authorized users.
The advantages of Lorawan
The long range: LoRaWAN enables data transmission over long distances (up to 15 km in open field), making it an ideal choice for remote monitoring applications.
Low energy consumption: LoRaWAN is designed for use with low-power connected devices, helping to extend the life of batteries, sensors and actuators.
Ease of use: LoRaWAN uses a simple network architecture, making it easy to deploy and manage networks.
Compatibility with a large number of connected devices: LoRaWAN supports a large number of connected devices, such as sensors, actuators, and network terminals, making it a universal protocol for the Internet of Things.
Affordable cost: LoRaWAN is an affordable communications protocol that enables businesses to deploy IoT networks at low cost.
Security: LoRaWAN uses security protocols to protect data and networks from malicious attacks.
However, there are also limitations such as limited bandwidth and vulnerability to interference.
An infinite range of applications
Private LoRaWAN networks are typically used for specific applications that require limited data access and increased security. These networks can be deployed, thanks to our Lorawan gateways and managed by the company, in order to keep control over the infrastructure.
Common applications of private LoRaWAN networks include:
Connected Agriculture
Smart farming uses Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to improve crop efficiency and productivity. LoRaWAN is an ideal communication protocol for smart farming because it allows low-power sensors and actuators to be connected to long-range networks, allowing crop growing conditions to be monitored and controlled remotely. LoRaWAN sensors can be used to measure parameters such as temperature, humidity, light, and nutrient levels in the soil, and LoRaWAN actuators can be used to control irrigation, lighting, and air conditioning systems. The data collected by the sensors can be used to optimize crop growing conditions, reducing operating costs and increasing yields.
The smart office
Private LoRaWAN networks can be used to improve the security and efficiency of buildings and sites by installing occupancy sensors, CO2 sensors, door opening detectors, smart plugs. The data from these sensors can be transmitted to a management system for real-time analysis and rapid decision-making.
The smart building
Smart buildings use Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to improve energy performance, security, and user comfort. LoRaWAN is an ideal communication protocol for smart buildings because it allows low-power sensors and actuators to be connected to long-range networks, allowing remote monitoring and control of environmental parameters. LoRaWAN sensors can be used to measure parameters such as temperature, humidity, brightness, air quality, and energy consumption, and LoRaWAN actuators can be used to control heating, cooling, and lighting systems. The data collected by the sensors can be used to optimize the energy performance of buildings, reducing operating costs and improving user comfort.
